KANETOMO

GENDAITO

Offered on consignment is a Kanetomo Gendaito in Gunto Koshirae.  Kanetomo was a Rikugun Jumei Tosho who worked prior to and during WWII.  This particular blade is date 11/1943 which would place this work as made during the war.  The overall condition is very good considering remains in it's original polish and the blade  is ubu-ba.  The polish is a little dull and there are areas of light rust, corrosion, crud, and surface scratches, again however considering it's last polish was 1943, it is in remarkable condition.  There are no serious or fatal flaws.  The hada is tight ko-itame. The hamon while at a glance looks to be suguha, is actually ko-midare based on suguha.

The condition of the Koshirae is very good to excellent. The Koshirae is a type 98 Gunto Army mounts and aside from missing the Chuso (locking mechanism) and Sarute, it is in great condition.
