KOSHIRAE -TYPE 98 SHIN-GUNTO

Offering the ever more popular Koa Isshin Mantetsu sword.  The sword is the standard production of the Manchurian Railway Co. which began production in 1939.

* For everything you want to know about Mantetsu Blades see this article:  http://ohmura-study.net/998.html

This particular sword was produced and dated spring, 1941. It is dated in the Kanshi or Zodiac system of dating used on these swords.  The Kanshi is an ancient system which began around 1100 BC. The system utilizes astronomy, cosmology, and divination within a 60 year cycle of dating.

This sword is in good condition overall.  The blade does have some surface scratches, scuffs a few tarnished spots.  In the monouchi it appears to have a stone passed along the edge.  This was perhaps to sharpen it or remove  bur.  Whether this was done during the war in the field or post war is impossible to say.  It is barely noticeable and makes no inherent difference.  No chips, bends, haigire, or anything fatal.  Considering it is in it's original 70+ year old polish it looks great.  The spine number "Ra" 158.

The Koshirae only has a couple of small dents or dings and overall is in great condition.

Mantetsu sword are becoming scarce and expensive when you can find them.
