The Monju Den was founded by Shigekuni, c. 1624, whose original kuni was Yamato.  Around 1619 he relocated to Kii following Tokagawa Yorinobu. His works were rated Saijosaku and Ryowazamono.  Fujishiro's list four generations of Monju Shigekuni.  The Nidai was known as "Monju" Shigkuni, c. 1655, his works being rated Josaku and Wazamono.  Both the Sandai and Yondai worked in Genroku c. 1688. Their works were rated Chujosaku. The NTHK papered this sword to Den Shinto Monju, but were unable to pinpoint a specific generation.

This Katana is quite long with a 28.5" nagasa.  It is o-suriage with two mekugi ana. The hamon is ko-gunome based on sugha and the hada is itame with mokume. It would certainly benefit from a polish as seen in the photos.  There are surface scratches, tarnish a little loose grain, etc., but nothing fatal or detrimental enough to prevent papering.

Comes with one piece gold foiled habaki and shirasaya.
