SHIRASAYA / KOSHIRAE

Offered here on consignment is a nice katana with both shirasaya and koshirae.  The sword is mumei, which could be a plus in the event someone ever wanted to paper it ie; no worry about it being gimei.  The sword does have a few superficial flaws but nothing detrimental or fatal. There are a few small kizu including some areas of loose grain, scuffs and hike kizu or surface scratches.

The sword exhibits considerable activity.  The hada is Itame with lots of  chikei and nie scattered throughout, which can be seen clearly in the photos.  The Hamon is sort of a mix, it is basically gunome midare with areas of sanbon sugi and gunome choji. Activity seen in the hamon include sunagashi, nie kozure, nijuba etc..  There is hakikake in the boshi.

The koshirae is complete with the saya in black lacquer. The koiguchi, kurigata, and kojiri are all horn.  The F/K are brown shakudo with the kashira showing a Pheonix or Ho-Bird, while the Fuchi depicts a crane or some type of water fowl.  The menuki appear to be shakudo, or at least part of them shakudo, and depict a Dragon on a Ken.  The Tsuba is iron with an Ishime finish and a silver fukurin or rim.

This would make a nice beginner's sword as it ha a lot of activity and has a nice koshirae to boot.
