KOSHIRAE

Offered on consignment is a nice Koto period wakizashi in outstanding Handachi mounts.  This o-suriage swords was cut down to wakizashi size at some point in it's life. The hada is well forged itame mixed with mokume.  The hamon is suguha in nie deki with a few clouds of nio. Nice Hakekake in the boshi.  The polish is adequate but would benefit from a touch up polish as there are some hike kizu or surface scratches, a few scuffs and tarnished areas.  It has no fatal or serious flaws and the polish is sufficient as is.

The Handachi Koshirae is absolutely stunning and completely ensuite. The fittings are all shibuichi with scrolling vines in kattekiri bori. The tsuba, fuchi, and kozuka all have matching mons done in shakudo.  The tsuka has a beautiful string wrap and the menuki are soft metal. The saya is lacquer with inlaid shells. It is in great condition, though there are a few cracks and dings which are to be expected with a piece of this age.  It is a gorgeous koshirae and will make a great addition to your collection.
