NAGINATA NAOSHI WHICH HAS BEEN CUT DOWN TO A 27" KATANA. WHILE MANY LONG NAGINATA WERE MADE, THE MAJORITY OF NAGINATA NAOSHI HAVE BEEN REDUCED TO WAKIZASHI SIZE.

THIS SWORD IS ATTRIBUTED TO KO-NAMINOHIRA SCHOOL BY THE NBTHK. NAMINOHIRA WAS A TOWN IN SATSUMA OR MODERN KAGOSHIMA, WHERE THE SCHOOL WAS ORIGINALLY FORMED WHEN SENJUIN MASAKUNI RELOCATED IN THE HEIAN PERIOD.

SWORDS KNOWN AS KO-NAMINOHIRA WERE MADE IN THE KOTO ERA, NANBOCHUKO PERIOD (1332 - 1392) LATER SWORDS, MADE IN THE MURIMACHI PERIOD (1392 - 1573) ARE KNOWN AS SUE-NAMINOHIRA.

THE KO-NAMINOHIRA SMITH'S WERE YUKIYASU, YASAYUKI, IEYASU, YASUIE, TOMOYASU, YAUTSUNA, YASUMITSU, AND YUKITSUGU.

THE HADA FOUND ON THIS SWORD IS A BEAUTIFUL ITAME. THE HAMON IS A NARROW CHU-SUGUBA HOTSURE AND CONTAINS NIE WHICH IS TYPICAL FOR THE SCHOOL.
