TSUBA T-1 SHAKUDO / GOLD Mei: Goto Sojo with Kao 4.06 x 3.59 x 0.312cm ANA: 2.5 x 0.625cm Nice Shakudo Nanako Tsuba depicting Daikoku and Ebisu the Gods of farmers and fishermen respectively. The thick, heavy plate is a warm chocolate brown and the inlay is done in gold Takabori or high relief . The tsuba is signed Goto Sojo with Kao. It was my understanding that the early masters did not sign their works, but were occasionally signed later with oimei. Oimei were not gimei as they were signed someone with authority, such as a later master. Goto Sojo was the second mainline master of the famous Goto School, thereby making this signature highly suspect at best, and in all likelihood gimei. However, to my knowledge it has never been submitted to shinsa, so who knows. Do you feel lucky today ?? Seriously, it is priced without regard for the mei and solely on the quality of work seen. If this were papered to goto sojo it would be in excess of $20-30K $650 USD SOLD
