| TSUBA T-10 IRON MARU GATA 2.75" (6.98cm) x 2.625" (6.67cm) x 0.125" (0.312cm) Ana: 1" (2.54cm) x 0.312" (0.78cm) This is one of several Tsuba I am listing which belonged to the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is an Iron Maru Gata Tsuba. The plate is well forged as evidenced by it's weight. The patina is a beautiful glistening chocolate brown. The motif is of a Pine Tree in the Moonlight. The tree is done in katte kiri bori or sunken relief, and the moon is gold nunome. At first I suspected the moon had suffered some loss of nunome. However, after some study I now believe that it was done this way. It appears that this mottled or filtered look was the desired effect. It is signed though I have not had time to interpret it. Truly a Museum quality piece. $850 USD
