This is a long wakizashi with nagasa of just over 21”. It is signed Nagamitsu Saku. There many smiths using the Nagamitsu mei as well as differing locations including Bungo, Bizen, Dewa, Kaga, Mino, Satsuma, Yamashiro, Yamato, etc. There are recorded Nagamitsu smiths working from 1046-1945. The point being, that an absolute attribution to an individual smith will be extremely difficult and one I would defer to shinsa.

The overall Sugata is very elegant with its slender shape, substantial sori, bilateral bo-hi and chu-kissaki. The nakago is ubu with one mekugi ana and the patina is very dark and thick. The hada has som O-mokume / O-itame and has utsuri. The hamon is gunome in nioi.  In the chu-kissaki there are hakikake. Again, bilateral bo-hi.  There are a few minor kittae ware in the blade, but nothing detrimental nor fatal.
