KOSHIRAE

Wakizashi in both excellent polish and koshirae. The sword description begins with an ubu nakago which is signed Wakasa no Kami Ujifusa. The mei looks spurious to me, and at the minimum needs further research if that is a concern to you.    The yasurime are sujikai and there is one mekugi ana. This wakizashi is 26.375” overall with a nagasa of 20.875”.  The sword is in excellent condition with one tiny chip approximately 1” above the habaki.  It was decided by the polisher to leave this small chip as removing it would have been more detrimental to the sword than leaving it.  Remember the focus of a good polisher is conservation.  This sword was polished in the kesho style and shows a gentle notare however, the notare is done over the actual hamon which is kawazu choji. The kawazu choji looks like fire dancing along the yakiba. It ends with a medium or chu-kissaki which really adds to the overall look of the sword.  The boshi is ko-maru.

The Koshirae consists of a roiro or matte black saya with horn fittings.  The tsuka is wrapped in a straw colored ito over white samegawa.  The shakudo menuki a depicts bell flower bouquet highlighted in gold. The fuchi/kashira are shibuichi in ishime finish. The fuchi is a floral motif and the kashira features a beautiful single cricket in takabori iroe. The beautifully patinated sentoku sukashi tsuba depicts a rain dragon grasping the sacred jewel.  The tsuba is signed Toshikazu saku.

Please note, this sword is priced as gimei.  If I was sure that the mei was good or if it was papered, it would be much, much higher in price.  Still a very nice sword with a gorgeous koshirae. Perfect for someone on a limited budget.
