Wakizashi inscribed Yashu Ju Yukihide.  It is dated using the zodiac calendar, Keio Gan Ushi toshi or Keio first year of the Ox (ushi).

He was also known as Iwai Yuki Hide according to the Connoisseur’s Guide.  Iwai is a town in Shimotsuke or Tochigi. He was a student of Yosokawa Masayoshi who in turn was a top student of Yosokawa Masahide.  This is on page 283 of the Connoisseur’s Guide.

YUKIHIDE (行秀), Kaei (嘉永, 1848-1854), Shimotsuke – “Arakawa Yukihide saku” (荒川行秀作), “Yashū-jū Arakawa Yukihide” (野州住荒川行秀), son of Arakawa Unryūshi Sadayoshi (荒川雲龍子貞吉), he lived in Shimotsuke´s Kanuma (鹿沼) and studied under Hosokawa Masayoshi (細川正義) and Suishinshi Masahide (水心子正秀), gunome-chōji, suguha, chūjō-saku

NTHK Kanteisho.  Judges gave this wakizashi a score of 72 pts.

The polish is a little faded. There is one tiny nail dragger (chip) on the edge, some light scuffing/surface scratches, oxidation and stains.  There is abundant hatarake (activity) which can be enjoyed.

The sword comes in shirasaya.
