O-dachi in koshirae, standing almost six feet tall.

Length (3 shaku, 6 sun, 4.6 bu).

Nagasa 43.5″ and sori of over 3″.

BLADE:

This sword was forged for a shrine or temple with a talisman or good luck charm engraves on the ura nakago ie; a prayer for rain.

Signed tachi mei:  Tadamitsu Saku Kore.

The ura is inscribed: “ame o konome jisetsu wa hakuryu koya o mau o shiru”.

Loosely translated, it reads, “the rain will come when the white dragon is in the sky”

Hada is evident but typical of the shinshinto period, it is very tightly forged or muji. Older but good polish. Hamon is a chu-suguba. Blade is in excellent condition.

KOSHIRAE

The koshirae begins with a red saya fitted with iron handachi mounts and wooden kurigata.  Tsuka is wrapped in a teal green ito, under which lie two of the largest dragon menuki i have ever seen (3.25″ or 8.125cm).the kabutogane is iron and the iron fuchi features a tomoe family mon.  Huge iron mokko-gata tsuba (3.75″ x 3.5″) is done in a floral motif featuring scrolling vines with sukashi gourds. One piece copper habaki.
