Well executed iron Choshu tsuba depicting a Crab (Kani) and Orchid (Ran). These motifs are commonly seen individually, however, this is one is a bit unusual as it is the first I have seen with the Orchid and Crab together.

The tsuba is more of a wakizashi size at 2.5″ x 2.25″ in diameter. It is thick for a small tusba at 0.25″ and the nakago ana is 1.1875″ (1 3/16) x 0.156″ (5/32) at the base.

The flowing and naturalistic rendition by the artist has produced a work which is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The Tsuba is in very good overall condition with only a few minor dings and minor patination wear seen on a few high spots.
