HOJU TOSHO

A sword smith or Tosho tsuba. The mimi or rim is yamagane or unrefined copper.

The depiction done in sukashi is of “Hoju”, meaning twin jewels. The flaming Jewel(s) are often depicted on swords and fittings and most often seen with a dragon either holding or chasing the jewel.
