TSUGUHIDE, OMI no KAMI

IRON MOKUME

MEI: OMI NO KAMI TSUGUHIDE

This is one of three fine Mokume Tsuba I own made by the sword smith, Omi (no) Kami Tsuguhide.  This tsuba is unusual in that it is done in a cupped form which was taken from the European style of sword guard. The obverse is intricately carved into flower petals while the reverse is plain. The beautiful Mokume or woodlike grain resulting from the folding of the metal can be seen clearly in the petals. The edges are crisp and well formed. It is signed with his full signature. The condition of this tsuba is excellent and the patina is perfect.
